Listed on this page are some my favorite books, software, office supplies, or anything else that I find helpful. You can complete your dissertation/thesis/journal article without these items, however these have made my life easier.
Writing Your Dissertation in Fifteen Minutes A Day This book is an oldie, but a goodie. It focuses on getting your butt in the chair to write.
The Clockwork Muse My whole writing practice was completely changed after reading this book. It is less than 100 pages, and primarily focuses on scheduling your writing.
Software & Blogs
Mendeley is my favorite reference manager. It is a free program, and I like how easy it is to upload papers from PubMed using their chrome extension.
Staedtler Colored Pens are my absolute favorite. This one package has lasted me my whole PhD. I use them for editing as well as outlining manuscripts or projects. I love these pens so much that I gave them to my writing group as a going away present.
Post-It Notes are something my writing practice has become dependent on. I use them to track my writing and jot quick notes as I am writing. Without post-its, I feel lost during my writing sessions.
I use these Expanding Files as my project boxes. Each project has a different file, and I divide the folders in each file according to the project. Using these project boxes makes it very easy to begin and end each writing session.
